Aiden and Sophia are holding on as the most popular baby names of 2012 in the United States, a specialist website for mothers-to-be said.
Sophia, Aiden, Emma and Jackson were among the most popular baby names of 2011 according to the results of a survey released December 1 by online information and retail destination for parents babycenter.com.
According to the results of the survey, 2011's popular names were, perhaps unsurprisingly, largely influenced by pop culture figures of the past year such as reality star Kourtney Kardashian's son Mason and actor Bradley Cooper.
However Aiden (for boys) remained top of the list for the seventh consecutive year and Sophia (for girls) held onto the top spot for the second year in a row.
According to the survey baby names rising in popularity, but not yet breaking into the top ten this year, include: William, Kate, Harry, Pippa -- inspired by the British royal family; Harper -- Victoria and David Beckham's daughter; Steven -- perhaps inspired by former Apple CEO Steve Jobs; and Cooper -- most likely influenced by actor Bradley Cooper who was voted by People magazine as the Sexiest Man Alive in 2011 .
According to a May 5 release by the US Social Security Administration film and book franchise Twilight heavily influenced the top baby names of 2010, with the names of protagonists Isabella and Jacob topping the list for girls and boys respectively.
Babycenter.com claims a membership of more then 10 million moms in the USA and a further 25 million around the world. According to the results of the survey, based on the 300,000 baby names registered on the website in 2011, the most popular baby names of 2011 are:
