Former President and incumbent Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has asked the Sandiganbayan to allow her to celebrate Christmas and New Year in her hometown in Pampanga.

In a seven-page motion filed with the anti-graft court’s First Division last Tuesday, Arroyo requested a leave of court from December 21, 2012 to January 7, 2013 “in observance of the revered tradition of togetherness, oneness and unity of the Filipino family” during the Yuletide season.

Arroyo, currently on hospital arrest at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City, added that the Philippine National Police “has expressed that… it is ready and willing to provide escorts and security measures” for her transfer to her house in Lubao town.

Arroyo, who is seeking re-election as congresswoman of Pampanga’s second district, is under arrest for a plunder case in relation to the alleged misuse of P366-million Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) intelligence funds during her incumbency.

Last year, a Pasay City court handling Arroyo’s poll sabotage charges denied a similar request from her to spend the holidays in her Quezon City home. — Andreo C. Calonzo/KBK, GMA News
