Bureau of Customs (BOC) operatives on Friday intercepted at least 20 barrels of high-powered M-14 military rifles that were declared as chocolates.

The gun barrels were placed in small boxes but were uncovered in a thorough examination at the Customs' facility in Pasay City, radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported.

In a post on his Twitter account, Customs Commissioner Rozzano Rufino Biazon said the barrels were smuggled via the postal service.

"M-14 rifles are high-powered military guns," he noted.

"The gun barrels were declared as chocolates and sent by mail. This shows need for us to be vigilant even in mailed parcels," Biazon added.

The dzBB report said the Bureau of Customs is now preparing charges against the consignee, who is reportedly from Bulacan province. — KBK, GMA News
