Palace: Even admin allies will not be spared for death, destruction from 'Pablo'
Malacañang on Saturday reassured the public even its own political allies will not be spared from charges if they are found liable for the death and destruction brought by Typhoon Pablo (international name: Bopha).
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said there should be no politics in the investigation since there was a huge loss of lives involved.
“Whoever is accountable will not be spared. Wala dapat halong pulitika kung ganito ang pinaguusapan. Buhay ng tao ang pinaguusapan natin, hindi dapat haluan ng pulitika,” she said on government-run dzRB radio.
She was responding to questions on whether heads will roll even if some of those heads belonged to the ruling Liberal Party where President Benigno Aquino III is an official.
For now, Valte said the Palace will wait for the results of the investigation.
“We don’t want to be accused of favoring a particular person or persecuting, as their favorite term would be. We will wait for the results,” she said.
Meanwhile, she said it is up to the voters to make their disgust known in the May elections by not voting for those who they believe did not perform well.
She said the vote is “the best way” for voters to express how they feel.
Typhoon Pablo devastated parts of Mindanao and Visayas, as well as Southern Luzon.
President Benigno Aquino III on Saturday declared a state of national calamity due to the damage brought about by Typhoon Pablo (international name: Bopha).
In Proclamation 522, Aquino cited the devastating rain, floods and flash floods in parts of Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
Typhoon Pablo left at least 456 dead and at least 533 people missing. It also caused P4 billion in damage to agriculture and infrastructure. - VVP, GMA News
