The image of the Black Nazarene was brought to the Quirino Grandstand in Manila from the Quiapo Church before 4 a.m. Tuesday, in preparation for Wednesday's procession.

Some devotees accompanied the image, believed to have miraculous powers, from the church to an open area in the grandstand, radio dzBB's Rodil Vega reported.

Many of the devotees embraced the image to "protect" it during its transfer to the Quirino Grandstand, where the "pahalik" is to be held later in the day.

Aside from the "pahalik," a vigil will be held at the grandstand along with a Mass on Wednesday morning before the procession.

Millions of devotees are expected to start gathering in Manila to attend the yearly religious festival.

Police and government officials have coordinated their actions to keep this year's event safe and secure. — DVM, GMA News
