The body of a seven-year-old girl killed by a stray bullet in
Caloocan City during the New Year revelry was prepared for public
viewing on Thursday, a day after she succumbed to her injury.
Stephanie Nicole Ella's remains were brought to the morgue of a funeral
parlor in Caloocan City, even as a white coffin was prepared for her,
radio dzBB's Manny Vargas reported.
Funeral
parlor workers were quoted in the report as saying Stephanie Nicole's
remains may be ready for viewing in the afternoon.
The girl died Wednesday afternoon after suffering her eighth heart attack at the East Avenue Medical Center in Quezon City.
Her death sparked outrage against the practice of indiscriminate firing, especially during the New Year revelry.
As this developed, Caloocan City police said residents are coming forward with leads on the perpetrator.
Caloocan City police spokesman Superintendent Jack Candelario said some residents turned over slugs to them for analysis.
"Pasalamat kami sa ating kababayan, lalo sa concerned citizens, binigay ang slug uli ng bala," he said in an interview on dzBB.
He said it is now up to the crime laboratory to see if the slugs
recovered from the scene match that extracted from the girl's head.
Candelario said an initial "visual inspection" indicates the slugs were those of a cal-.45 pistol.
On the other hand, Candelario appealed anew to the public to give information on the stray bullet incident.
He said police on Wednesday night went door-to-door in the girl's
village, asking residents if they could share information with them.
"Hinihikayat natin ang kababayan kung meron silang nalalaman ay ipagbigay-alam sa atin," he said.
"Maraming information ang binibigay sa atin, hindi natin binabalewala," he added. —KG, GMA News
