Lucas Matthysse (33-2, 31 KOs) won WBC interim light welterweight title against Mike Dallas Jr. with a dominant first round knockout victory at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Buenos Aires, Argentina native needed just 2:26 to defeat Dallas whose record fell to 19 wins with three losses and a draw after the second knockout loss of his career.

Dallas came in with a lazy jab while moving towards his left but Matthysse caught him with a short counter right hand that was similar to the punch Juan Manuel Marquez used to knock out Manny Pacquiao last December.

Matthysse followed up with a left hook but it hardly mattered as Dallas was out and was on his way down when it connected. Dallas fell face first which also resembled how Pacquiao fell against Marquez. The referee stepped in to start the 10-count but he stopped at the count of 4 as he knew there was no way Dallas would get up. This sharp decision by the referee gave the medical crew at ringside more time to attend to Dallas who appeared to be okay after the fight.

The Argentinean now awaits the result of the scheduled match between unified WBA and WBC light welterweight champion Danny “Swift” Garcia and Zab “Super” Judah. Since he owns the interim version of the WBC light welterweight title, there is a good chance that Matthysse will be given a shot at the winner of the fight scheduled for February 9th at the Barclays Center, home of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets. - GMA News
