Mexican firms interested in PHL expansion – Philexport
Mexican companies are keen on expanding to the Asia-Pacific region, with Mexico's ties with the Philippines “in particular” having potential, the Philippine Exporters’ Confederation (PhilExport) said over the weekend.
“Mexican companies believe in the change that is taking place in the Philippines right now… Mexico’s relations with the Philippines in particular have a lot of room for growth,” Philexport's statement quoted Mexican trade commissioner and deputy chief of mission Christian Clay-Mendoza as saying.
Clay-Mendoza added that Mexico recognizes the Asia-Pacific region as “the most dynamic region in the world.”
Sectors that Mexican companies may be looking into include electronics, automotive manufacturing and aerospace manufacturing.
The expansion of business relations between the two countries will continue what some big Mexican and Philippine firms have already been doing, said the statement: the Enrique Razon-owned port operator International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), currently operates Mexico's busy Manzanillo port, while Mexican beverage giant FEMSA S.A.B. de C.V. Recently purchased Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines, Inc.
“These are interesting movements by the big companies We would like also like medium and small enterprises to come here and we would like to get to know each country,” said Clay-Mendoza. — BM, GMA News
