Marian Rivera drops manager, open to other networks
Marian Rivera has declared her independence from former manager Popoy Caritativo.
Marian is now under the one who discovered her, Antonio Tuviera, head of Triple A.
In a move that surprised even showbiz insiders, Marian told reporters in a presscon at Luxent Hotel on Friday, April 26, that she is going back to her showbiz roots after giving Popoy a letter explaining her feelings.
“Pareho kaming nag-agree na mabuting maghiwalay na kami kasi hindi nagiging productive ang relationship namin bilang talent manager at bilang kaibigan,” explained Marian.
The Kapuso actress added that she just wants to have the freedom to decide about her career, something she wasn’t able to do when she was under Popoy, simply because she started being his talent when she was still a newbie and didn’t know so much about the industry.
No bad blood
Marian clarified that there is no bad blood between her and Popoy. In fact, she is grateful to him for handling her career for seven years. But Marian admits she is not yet ready to face her former manager, even if there is no contract binding their business relationship.
“Walang away na naganap. May hindi pagkakaintindahan,” she said. “Unfair kay Popoy na i-detalye ko pa.”
Pressed to be more specific about the root of her decision to break free from Popoy, Marian replied, “Isa sa mga dahilan ay ngayon, magagawa ko na ang lahat ng nais ko sa buhay. Ako na ang mag-de-desisyon sa sarili ko.”
In Triple A, for instance, Marian quoted Tuviera as telling her, “Ikaw ang boss namin. Ikaw nag nagpapasuweldo sa amin. Ikaw ang masusunod kung ano ang gusto mong gawin.”
GMA contract
As for whether she is sticking to GMA 7 after her contract expires in August, Marian was non-committal.
“Uupuan namin yan ni Tatay (Tuviera). Humihingi kami ng isang araw para makausap ng grupo namin ni Tatay si Popoy. Hindi ko sinasarado ang pintuan ko sa iba’t ibang klaseng network.”
Marian promised to honor all the commitments -- contracts, shows, etc. --Popoy got for her even if she’s no longer his talent.
On a lighter note, Marian happily announced that she set up her Instagram account on April 24. The account now has 11,000 followers. Marian credits boyfriend Dingdong Dantes for helping her put up the account and multiplying the number of her followers after he liked the photo she posted.
