Two billion minutes: that's how much time users of the videoconferencing service spend connecting to each other every day.

In a blog post, Skype's Elisa Steele said this shows how Skype has become a part of daily life.

"With numbers like these, it’s clear that Skype is for more than just for special occasions – it’s for being together with those who matter most – at work, at home and anywhere in between. With Skype you can connect with the people you care about most on any device – PCs, iPhones, iPads, Kindle Fires, Androids, Macs, Windows Phones and even TVs," she said.

Steele said two billion minutes is "enough time to travel to the moon and back over 225 thousand times, walk around Earth more than 845 times or travel to Mars more than 5,400 times."

An infographic prepared by Skype also said two billion minutes in a day is equivalent to:

  • 33 million hours of laughter
  • 1,388,000 days of collaboration
  • 3,805 years of sharing smiles
  • flying around the world by plane more than 700,000 times
  • traveling to the Moon and back over 225,000 times
  • watching more than 16 million movies
  • running 6.6 million marathons

Steele said the two billion minutes a day is "also a testament to the hard work of our product teams who have enabled these great experiences."

"Whether making a voice or video call, sending an instant message, sharing a file or connecting with a group of friends, now more than ever before, Skype brings people together whenever they are apart," she said.

But Steele said that despite the milestone, Skype continuest to look for even more ways for people to connect and share. — TJD, GMA News
