Pinoy kids ace Int'l Math and Science Olympiad

Pinoy junior Einsteins will be bringing home a total of 23 medals from the ninth International Math and Science Olympiad (IMSO) held in Lucknow, India from Oct. 28 to Nov. 1.
The Philippine delegation is set to arrive in Manila on Nov. 3.
Twelve-year-old Shaquille Wyan Que of Grace Christian College, Quezon City clinched the top spot in the Mathematics category, in which the Filipino contingent also won five silvers and six bronzes.
In the Science category, seven kids from the Pinoy delegation bagged silver medals, while four took home bronzes.

Questions for the Math category involved integers, rational numbers, factoring numbers, greatest common divisor, least common multiples, number ordering, ratio and proportion, geometry, and mean, median and mode.
Meanwhile, the Science quiz included questions on nutrition, general health, environmental issues, ecology, photosynthesis, genetically modified organisms, biofule, satellites, biotechnology, human anatomy, mechanics, solar system, light, matter, magnetism and electricity, force, and energy.
The Filipino students bested representatives from China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Nepal, South Africa, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Taiwan. 
IMSO is open to students from grades five to six, ages 13 and below.
