Is Apple testing TV designs with Sharp and Foxconn?

Tech site The Next Web on Wednesday cited a Wall Street Journal report that the firms are working on a large-screen high-resolution TV.

Quoting unnamed persons within Taiwan's Hon Hai (Foxconn), The Wall Street Journal said the project is not yet a formal project, and is "still in the early stage of testing."

On the other hand, The Next Web noted the WSJ report indicated Apple had been testing TV designs “for a number of years,” and suggests Apple's plan is long-term.

Yet, it said the WSJ also noted the more important issue for Apple is to strike deals for providing content.

The Next Web cited a separate report on The New York Post that Apple talked with cable companies last March but cable companies were not too happy with Apple's attitude of trying to control the price and content.

It also said Apple was rumored to work with Canadian firm Rogers over its TV set.

So far, it said Apple CEO Tim Cook said in an NBC News interview that such a product is "an area of interest." — TJD, GMA News
