President Benigno Aquino III personally welcomed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Friday around 500 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who went home for the holidays.

A report on GMA News TV’s Balitanghali on Thursday also noted that the government even gave them money, with one OFW taking home almost P300,000 during the 2012 Pamaskong Handog sa OFWs.

Most of the OFWs came from Doha, Qatar and Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The governmen,t through the Manila International Airport Authority, the Bureau of Immigration and the Bureau of Customs, provided the OFWs with VIP treatment upon their arrival.

Express lanes both at the Immigration and Customs areas were installed so OFWs can pass immediately without any hassle.

The event, which had the theme “Parangal at Serbisyo sa OFW, Hatid Natin Ngayong Pasko,” was also attended by Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Carmelita Dimzon.

Immigration Commissioner Ricardo David, Jr. and MIAA general manager Jose Angel Honrado were also at the event.

The Pamaskong Handog is a DOLE initiative that has been ongoing for 18 years now. Aquino has participated at the event since his election in 2010. - VVP, GMA News
