(Updated 9:02 a.m.) - The death toll from
Tropical Cyclone Pablo (Bopha) went up to 714 as of early Tuesday as
more bodies were recovered from areas hit by Pablo Monday night.
National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council head Benito
Ramos said at least 861 more remained missing, radio dzBB's Rodil Vega
reported Tuesday morning.
Ramos was quoted in the report as saying at least eight bodies were found in Cateel in Davao Oriental province on Monday night.
At least 1,906 people were reported injured in the wake of Pablo, which dissipated after reaching Northern Luzon last Sunday night.
Tropical Cyclone Pablo plowed through parts of Mindanao and Visayas and
then headed for Northern Luzon, but weakened and dissipated once over
the Ilocos area.
It caused more than P7 billion in damage.
Philippine National Police chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome
went to the Compostela Valley area and to other parts of Visayas and
Mindanao to check on PNP personnel affected by Pablo.
Bartolome assured the affected police personnel of help that can be extended to them, radio dzBB's Tuesday Niu reported.
The report said that despite the affected police personnel's plight,
they still took part in search, rescue and relief operations for other
victims of Pablo.
Cebu gives P1M to ComVal
Meanwhile, a separate report by dzBB's Cebu affiliate Orchids Lapincao
said the Cebu City government is giving P1 million to Compostela Valley,
one of the areas hit hardest by Pablo.
The report quoted Mayor Michael Rama as saying the amount will be taken from the city government's calamity fund.
Pablo was the strongest typhoon to hit the Philippines in 2012.
UN Humanitarian Coordinator Luiza Carvalho will outline plans for an
immediate aid package as well as long-term support for the southern
region of Mindanao, hardest hit by Typhoon Pablo, UN spokeswoman Imogen

Pablo was the strongest typhoon to hit the Philippines in 2012.
On Monday, the United Nations said it will launch a global appeal for aid to Pablo victims.
