To make sure students can push through with their classes, tents will be set up as temporary classrooms in areas in Mindanao where schools were devastated by Tropical Cyclone Pablo (Bopha).

Department of Education Secretary Armin Luistro issued the order after learning some 800 classrooms in typhoon-hit areas were damaged, radio dzBB reported Wednesday.

Most of the affected classrooms were in Regions 10 and 11 and in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, the report quoted spokesman Tonesito Umali as saying.

As of Tuesday night, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Pablo left 740 dead and P9,933,760,768.05 in damage.

Meanwhile, a separate report by dzBB's Glen Juego said the DepEd has deployed teams to the affected areas to conduct stress debriefing for students.

Umali was quoted in the report as saying the teachers in those areas will not yet strictly follow the lesson plans so the students can recover from their trauma. — LBG, GMA News
