Marvin Dumandan, one of top professional golfers in the country, is targeting the Asian Tour circuit as the next destination in his young career.

He will be participating in the 2013 Asian Tour Qualifying School, set at Hua Hin, Thailand in January, in the hope of getting a regular tour card.

“I want to be in the big league,” he said referring to the Asian Tour, which holds around 27 events yearly with a total prize of about $33-million.

Dumandan currently plays in the local ICTSI Philippine Golf Tour that will end with the P2.5-million Wack Wack Championship next week.

He’s on seventh place in the Order of Merit race with more than P700,000 in earnings.  He will probably earn more if he gets through the Q-School.

“AT events offer more cash.  If I can get in, I would do the best I can,” said Dumandan, who is the newest resident pro of Sherwood Hills Golf Club.

And judging by his shot-making, according to Sherwood Hills GM Raymond Bunquin, he is at optimum level and ready against Asia’s best golfers.

“He hits the ball well,” said Bonquin, who with Joey Arguelles, Joey de Jesus and Rex Gonquingco, saw Dumandan’s first career ace recently.

A total of 650 players, Dumandan included, will vie for 40 slots to earn slots to the Asian Tour.  Stage One of the Q-School will be on January 9 to 12 then the Stage Two will be on January 16 to 19.

The Final Stage presented by Sports Authority of Thailand will be at the Imperial Lakeview Golf Club and Springfield Royal Country Club in Hua Hin from January 23 to 26. - AMD, GMA News
