Google doodle pays tribute to mother of computer programming Ada Lovelace

A Gothic-themed doodle was search giant Google's way of honoring Abraham "Bram" Stoker, the Irish author of "Dracula," on what would have been his 165th birthday.

Visitors to Google's home page (www.google.com) on Thursday were greeted with a doodle of eerie images including the cloaked vampire Count Dracula.

There is none of the "melodrama" associated with recent vampire movies in the doodle's images, which include a bat that Dracula famously transforms into, as well as a moon behind his castle.

"Other Bram Stoker characters also appear on the black and white doodle with only the Google letters appearing in blood red," read a description of the doodle on IBN Live.

As in the past, clicking on the doodle will take the visitor to a Google Search Results page for Bram Stoker.

Stoker was born November 8, 1847 in Dublin, and was a personal assistant of actor Henry Irving. He also managed Irving's Lyceum Theatre in London.

But Stoker is best remembered for his 1897 Gothic novel "Dracula," though he is also credited with many other novels and short stories.

Stoker died in 1912 at age 64. — LBG, GMA News
