Google is planning to come up with a powerful smartphone of its own to rival those of Apple and Samsung, according to a report on The Wall Street Journal.
The WSJ report quoted people familiar with the matter as saying engineers of Google-owned Motorola are working on the gadget that may be released in 2013.
But the company's efforts to make the prospective smartphone, initially dubbed the "X phone," is also running into some obstacles, it added.
Google acquired Motorola earlier this year for $12.5 billion.
A separate article on CNET said Motorola will continue to produce devices for its carrier partner Verizon.
Apple and Samsung presently have a huge share of the smartphone market, with Apple's iPhone and Samsung's range of smartphones led by its flagship Galaxy series. — LBG, GMA News
