Senator Sergio Osmeña III was not able to participate on Monday's voting on the controversial Reproductive Health (RH) bill due to health reasons.
In a text message to reporters on Tuesday, Osmeña said he was brought to Makati Medical Center on Sunday night after he suffered from acute pancreatitis the previous night.
"My reading was ten times normal level. No food, only intravenous feed and antibiotics until levels recede," he said.
Osmeña said that if his blood test comes out better than in the last two days, he may be discharged later Tuesday.
Osmeña and Sen. Lito Lapid were the only senators absent when the Senate voted 13-8 to pass the RH bill on second and third reading on Monday evening.
GMA News Online was still trying to reach Lapid's office as of posting time.
Osmeña had said that he was in favor of the passage of the RH measure while Lapid has always sided with the anti-RH bloc in the Senate since the period of interpellation and amendments.
Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada, Senators Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III, Antonio Trillanes IV, Manuel Villar, Bong Revilla, Vicente Sotto III, and Gregorio Honasan voted against the passage of the bill.
Those who voted in favor of the bill were Senators Miriam Defensor-Santiago, Edgardo Angara, Joker Arroyo, Pia Cayetano, Alan Peter Cayetano, Franklin Drilon, Francis Escudero, Teofisto Guingona III, Panfilo Lacson, Loren Loren, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Francis Pangilinan, and Ralph Recto. —Kimberly Jane Tan/KBK, GMA News
