In his first match, after splitting with trainer Freddie Roach, Amir Khan scored a tenth round stoppage win over the formerly-undefeated Carlos Molina.

Khan bloodied and battered Molina for much of the 30 minutes they fought, until Molina’s corner called a halt to the bout after the end of the tenth round.

As usual, Khan started the fight well. The former Olympian used his superior speed to frustrate Molina.

In the second round, Molina caught Khan’s attention with a big right hand that momentarily wobbled the Pakistani-born British citizen. But Khan bounced back quickly as he kept on popping Molina with jabs from outside.

More of the same played out in latter rounds. Khan peppered Molina with jabs and crisp combinations while the younger fighter faded. Molina also suffered from a cut on top of his left eye which continuously bled throughout the fight.

Molina’s corner felt that their fighter could no longer change the outcome of the fight as Khan was way ahead in the scorecards. They decided to save their fighter from further punishment by waving the towel after the 10th round.

Molina was coming off three straight unanimous decision victories after getting the first blemish of his professional boxing record in a split draw last year. However, Molina has not faced anyone of worth before challenging Khan. He took a considerable step up in the level of opposition and he quickly figured out that he does not belong on that level just yet.

Molina was the perfect "bounce back" opponent for Khan, as he does not have the one-punch knockout power that would test Khan’s questionable chin.

With the win, Khan upped his record 27-3-0, with 19 knockouts. Meanwhile, Molina suffered the first loss of his career and dropped to 17-1-1, with only seven knockout victories.

Khan also upended the WBC Silver light welterweight title with the win.--LBG / KDM, GMA News
