The death toll from Tropical Cyclone Pablo (Bopha) continues to
climb, reaching 647 as of Monday morning, the National Disaster Risk
Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.
In its 5 a.m. update, the NDRRMC also said the damage caused by Pablo
went further up to P7.116 billion, as damages to infrastructure and
agriculture continued to mount.
According to the NDRRMC,
647 had been reported dead as of 5 a.m. Monday, while 1,482 were
injured. At least 780 remained missing, while 109 were rescued.
The NDRRMC also said Pablo had affected 487,304 families or 5,412,140
people in 1,928 villages in 249 towns and 38 cities in 30 provinces.
Of these, 29,390 families or 302,586 people are being served in 172 evacuation centers.
Damage was estimated at P7,116,388,040.07, including P3,479,131,300 in
infrastructure, P3,618,868,247.07 in agriculture, and P18,388,493 in
private properties.
At least 11 bridges and nine roads remained impassable, while 21 cities and towns are experiencing power interruption.
Meanwhile, 50 provinces, towns and cities in Southern Luzon, Central
Visayas and Regions 10, 11 and Caraga were under a state of calamity.
Tropical Cyclone Pablo plowed through Mindanao and Visayas last week
before reaching the Ilocos area, where it eventually weakened and
