A jewelry company in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) which has many employees from the Philippines has donated Dh183,650 (about P2.057 million) for victims of Tropical Cyclone Pablo (international name: Bopha).

Dubai-based Pure Gold Jewellers expressed sympathy for the families of victims of Pablo,  the UAE news site Gulf News reported on Wednesday.

“I am deeply saddened by the condition of those affected by the typhoon. Filipinos contribute greatly to the retail sector and other economic sectors in the UAE and we have many staff from the Philippines,” Firoz Merchant, chairman of Pure Gold Jewellers, told Guld News.

Merchant said the donation is a show of "solidarity during this difficult time."

He said they are "doing the best to contribute to helping those who are suffering because of the destruction caused by the typhoon.”

Merchant sent the donation to the NDRRMC to help the rebuilding of communities affected by Pablo.

He also met with Philippine Consul-General to the UAE Frank Cimafranca to offer support for Pablo's victims.

Pablo left more than 1,000 dead and more than P36 billion in damage to property, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). - VVP, GMA News
