A new phishing attack is trying to steal Google passwords using a Red Cross website, a security vendor warned over the weekend.

Sophos said prospective victims will receive an email asking them to go to Google Docs to view the sender's profile.

"At first glance, you might imagine you are logging into Google Docs to see the content from the email's sender - but a closer examination of the URL bar reveals that this isn't Google at all that you're visiting, but instead a phishing page hidden away on the Ethiopian Red Cross Society's website," Sophos' Graham Cluley said in a blog post.

Cluley warned recipients against entering their credentials on the page as the data may go to cybercriminals.

He noted Google's online tools such as email and calendars are becoming "increasingly attractive" for online criminals since so many people use them.

Also, Cluley said Sophos has tried to inform the Ethiopian Red Cross Society about the security breach on their website. — TJD, GMA News
