Vice President Jejomar Binay assured Filipinos staying illegally in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that they can avail of skills training to start a new livelihood should they avail of the UAE's amnesty and return to the Philippines.
Binay stressed this in an interview with the news site Khaleej Times, at the sidelines of the inaugural Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW).
Binay was in the UAE to represent President Benigno Aquino III at the World Future Energy Summit and the first International Water Summit.
Binay, the presidential adviser on overseas Filipino workers (OFW) concerns, said OFWs will be given a special scholarship by (the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority). And they will be contacted once they reach home.”
He noted that TESDA head Joel Villanueva, agreed to waive the fees for the returning workers.
For her part, Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Grace Princesa said about 1,000 Filipino amnesty-seekers may benefit from the offer, which will “upscale” semi-skilled workers.
She said they are now drawing up a list of names and addresses of returning OFWs who want to avail of the TESDA training. - VVP, GMA News
