The Armed Forces of the Philippines has tightened its watch on areas in Mindanao to prevent followers of Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III from going to Sabah.
Military forces are particularly wary of Kiram followers boarding small boats and possibly getting involved in the conflict there, radio dzBB's Manny Vargas reported.
A separate report on dzRH radio quoted Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin as saying 10 naval ships are to prevent "movements" from the Philippines to Sabah.
Sabah had been the site of clashes between Kiram's followers and Malaysian security forces on Friday and Saturday night.
Last Friday, Kiram's followers and Malaysian security forces engaged in a deadly shootout that left at least 12 Filipinos and two Malaysian police commandos dead.
On Saturday night, another clash broke out, with Malaysia's Bernama news agency saying six Malaysian policemen and six followers of Kiram were killed.
Malaysia has adopted an all-out stance against Kiram's followers still in Sabah.
But while President Benigno Aquino III appealed to Kiram's followers to surrender without condition, Kiram's camp has rejected the call, saying it chose "honor over life." — RSJ, GMA News
