Now that he has stepped down from the papacy, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI may want to retire in the Philippines, Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. suggested Sunday.
In posts on his Twitter account, Jimenez urged Filipinos to "invite" Benedict XVI – who resigned due to health reasons – to visit the Philippines.

"What do you say, folks? l Think the Philippines would be a great place to retire. Let's invite Pope Benedict to retire here," he said.
"Maybe Pope Emeritus can start by spending his winters here. the weather is perfect and the people are FUN to be with," he added.
Last Friday (Manila time), Benedict XVI formally stepped down from the papacy, nearly a month after he announced he would resign due to health reasons.
Under his watch, the Philippines got its second saint with the canonization of Pedro Calungsod last year.
Jimenez, in suggesting that Benedict XVI be invited to retire in the Philippines, said: "It's never too late, you're never too old to enjoy the many wonderful things that God gave the Philippines." — LBG, GMA News
