Barangay Ginebra San Miguel continues to stun the basketball world with a 104-81 beatdown of the Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters, taking the first game of their best-of-five semifinals series in the PBA Commissioner's Cup, Friday, at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Ginebra came out gunning, shooting 61.9 percent from the field in the first period to stun the Texters with a 26-10 advantage before the quarter was over. The Barangay didn't let up in the second period and led by as much as 28 points, 59-31, before slowing down the pace in the second half to decrease the possessions TNT could use to dig themselves out of their grave.

Their largest lead stood at 100-71 with just over two minutes remaining in the game.

Kerby Raymundo was named player of the game as he lead the Ginebra locals with 14 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Chris Ellis tallied 13 points and six rebounds. Mac Baracael and Josh Urbiztondo had 11 points apiece while combining for eight rebounds and five assists. LA Tenorio had eight points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Import Vernon Macklin led all scorers with 25 points and nine boards.

"We went there just to play, at nakuha namin yung gusto naming mangyari," said Ginebra head coach Alfrancis Chua. "They played really good defense and went up by 29 points. I told them kung yung pinaghirapan nila sa first half, pag pinakawalan nila yon, sayang lang."

Despite the huge lead, Ginebra never let up, as Talk 'N Text never came within less than 18 points in the second half while trailing by as much as 29 points, 100-71, with around two minutes remaining in the game.

Chua said that being one of the final four teams standing in a postseason series for the first time since the 2011 Commissioner's Cup was a huge motivation for his squad moving forward. Even when he began to dig deep into his bench, his players were still able to produce on the floor. "I told them to just be ready. Kung pinulot ko sila, puputok sila kung alam nila kung ano ang ginagawa nila," he said.

The Ginebra head coach also said that the series was far from over, and his team would be back in the gym for practice tomorrow. "I've got to give it to my players. They really played well but I guess we caught TNT on an off-night. They're a champion team with a champion coach, I'm sure they're gonna bounce back," he said. "For sure babalik yan. We've just got to be ready sa kung anong ibabalik nila sa amin."

Game two will be played on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

While the Texters struggled to penetrate the paint, Ginebra raced to a 10-2 lead in the first quarter thanks to triples by Chris Ellis and Mac Baracael. Talk 'N Text called timeout and attempted to slow the game down, trading shots with Ginebra in the halfcourt, but missed tip-ins and turnovers by TNT allowed Ginebra to get on a 10-0 run, as Ellis and Rudy Hatfield ran the floor to complement twin triples by Baracael, 26-10.

Talk 'N Text went to Jayson Castro to provide the points in the last two minutes, but Ginebra one-upped them each time. Finally, JJ Helterbrand connected on a jumper off a TNT error as time ran out to post a 33-15 advantage in the first quarter.

Ginebra began the second period without Vernon Macklin, and Castro looked to capitalize at the rim. However, his team was unable to get stops on the other end, as Ellis and Kerby Raymundo still found their way inside, 40-22. Macklin provided instant impact anew when he checked in with four minutes gone in the quarter, scoring on a tip-in, then throwing down a vicious tomahawk off an LA Tenorio pass, completing six unanswered for Ginebra, 46-22.

The Texters tried to whittle away at the lead playing inside-out, as a Jimmy Alapag triple cut the lead to twenty, 51-31. However, Ginebra pounced on every mistake and turned them into momentum-changing plays, including a put-back slam by Macklin. Moments later, Josh Urbiztondo drilled a triple to push the lead to a new high, 59-31, with two and a half minutes to play.

Castro tried to salvage his team before the quarter ended, attacking early in the clock before the defense could settle to post a 59-36 deficit at halftime.

Ginebra shot 61.9 percent in the first quarter before settling for 24-of-44 makes, including 6-of-12 from deep at the half (54.5 percent). Meanwhile TNT, improved on their 28.6 percent mark in the first, making 13-of-37 at halftime, including only 1-of-7 three-pointers.

BGSM also led in second-chance points, 10-4.

When play resumed, Ginebra slowed down the pace and settled into half court play. Talk n' Text worked off dribble-drive penetration by Castro, as he and Ranidel De Ocampo kept their team in the game. John Ferriols completed a transition and-one to cap an 11-4 run, 56-74.

Ginebra would re-establish control in the final two minutes, though, as Macklin faced up to score twice, and Urbiztondo nailed a transition trey to end the quarter with seven unanswered points, 81-56.

Still, Talk 'N Text competed hard in the final period as they set up Jerome Jordan for their first eight points. Urbiztondo and Tenorio returned serve, while Yousef Taha denied TNT easy baskets down low to keep the game honest.

Ginebra slowly began to clear their bench with four and a half minutes to play. They fielded Rico Maierhofer, Elmer Espiritu, Willie Wilson and Rob Labagala to close out the game, while Talk n' Text finally put Aaron Aban and Pamboy Raymundo on the floor.

Talk 'N Text shot a lowly 29-of-82 from the floor (35.4 percent), including just 1-of-18 from long range (5.6 percent). Ginebra outperformed them with a blistering 42-of-80 clip (52.5 percent), including 10-of-24 three pointers (41.7 percent) with Baracael and Urbiztondo accounting for 7-of-12.

Ginebra only fared significantly worse than TNT in free throws, making 10-of-21 (47.6 percent) against the Texters' 22-of-29 mark (75.9 percent).
