With an "unprecedented" budget of P2 billion, the Philippine National
Police (PNP) will procure some 2,500 vehicles that will be distributed
to police offices all over the country, Interior Secretary Mar Roxas II
announced Wednesday.
"This is the first time nagkaroon ng
ganitong kalaking pagbili,” Roxas said at a press briefing in Camp
Crame.
Roxas said of
the budget, P1 billion will come from the PNP's vehicle funds in 2012
and 2013, while another P1 billion will come from President Benigno
Aquino III.
The vehicles were described as single-cab patrol jeeps.
"Single
facing or outward facing para sa ating tropa na PNP," said Roxas, who
met with representatives from various car manufacturers prior to the
press briefing.
operations. Mararamdaman 'yung kanilang presensya sa iba't ibang
komunidad sa ating bansa," he added.
Among those who attended the
meeting with Roxas were representatives from Honda Cars, Isuzu
Philippines, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines, Nissan Motors Philippines,
and Toyota Motors Philippines.
Roxas said PNP deputy chief for
administration Deputy Director General Ager Ontog will head the Bids and
Awards Committee regarding the procurement of the vehicles.
The PNP is now finalizing the official bidding documents for the project, Roxas said.
"Ngayon
The
procurement will have two processes: the first involves technical
qualifications and the submission of prototypes, while the second will
delve on the project budget. — KBK, GMA News
