Globe Head for Legal Services Marisalve Ciocson-Co and Globe Head for Internal Controls Carmina Herbosa receive the 1st PSE Bell Award for Corporate Governance

Leading telecommunications company Globe Telecom bested 247 other listed companies in the country to win the first ever Bell Award for Corporate Governance given recently by the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE).

The recognition follows a similar citation from Hong Kong publishing giant FinanceAsia where Globe also garnered high marks in the Best Corporate Governance category.

“It is truly an honor for Globe to be consistently recognized both locally and internationally for its corporate governance practices.  This recent award is a testament to the unwavering efforts of Globe Board of Directors, management, officers, and employees to commit themselves to the principles and best practices of governance in the attainment of corporate goals,” said Marisalve Ciocson-Co, Globe Head for Legal Services.

Globe is joined by two other companies under the Ayala Group, namely Manila Water and Ayala Land.  The award was given out by the PSE to honor the five best Philippine listed firms that were able to comply with PSE’s corporate governance guidelines and other related rules and regulations.  It is also a way to encourage listed companies to add more value for their stakeholders and to further improve their performance.

“Through corporate governance policies, Globe ensures that it pursues the mandate to protect the interests of the investing public and is accountable for governing and providing direction to the corporation.  Globe firmly believes that good governance together with integrity and transparency are critical aspects to its success.  These are the principles that make up the company’s foundation to achieving its mission, vision, and goals,“ said Carmina Herbosa, Head of Globe Internal Controls

Corporate governance refers to the legal and factual regulatory framework for managing and supervising a corporation.  It encompasses all the systems and mechanisms of shareholders and other stakeholders to ensure that management enhances the value of a corporation as it competes in an increasingly global market place.

The awarding ceremony was graced by President Benigno S. Aquino III, Vice President Jejomar Binay, former Philippine presidents Fidel V. Ramos and Joseph Estrada, chief executive officers and senior leaders of private companies, cabinet officials, and foreign dignitaries.
