Amid the threat of more rain in the coming days, the Davao City government on Saturday said it is leaving to school authorities and employers the decision to suspend classes and work between Jan. 26 and 30.

In posts on its social networking accounts, the Davao City government cited the possibility of rain from a low-pressure area, and the chance of more rain based on PAGASA's three-day outlook.

"In view of the PAGASA 24-hour weather forecast issued 5 a.m., January 26, and the extended weather outlook until January 30, along with the occurrence of the Low Pressure Area 630 km southeast of General Santos City, the City Government of Davao DELEGATES TO THE RESPECTIVE SCHOOL AUTHORITIES AND EMPLOYERS, THE DISCRETION/DECISION TO SUSPEND CLASSES AND WORK, beginning today, Jan. 26 until Jan. 30," it said.

The advisory was posted on the city government's Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Davao City had experienced flash floods in recent days due to heavy rain.

On Saturday morning, PAGASA said rain showers and thunderstorms may affect parts of Bicol, Visayas and Mindanao as an LPA hovered near General Santos City.

"Bicol region, Eastern and Central Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao and Davao region will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms," it said in its 5 a.m. bulletin.

PAGASA also said Cagayan Valley will have cloudy skies with light rain, while Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy with brief light rain.

It said moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and coming from the northeast to north over Visayas and Mindanao.

The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be moderate to rough, it added.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said strong to gale-force winds associated with the northeast monsoon may affect the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon.

"Fishing boats and other small sea crafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves," it said. — LBG, GMA News
