The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has requested for DNA samples from the relatives of the only missing Filipino in the wake of the Algeria hostage crisis.
Foreign Affairs spokesperson Raul Hernandez said the DNA samples are "to faciliate the identification of his remains."
"We are now coordinating with the concerned employment agency on this," Hernandez said.
Meanwhile, the remains of four Filipinos killed in the incident are scheduled to arrive in Manila "in the next few days," Hernandez said.
"The families of the fatalities have requested that they be given space and privacy by the media as they mourn the loss of their loved ones." he added.
The number of Filipinos killed in the incident reached eight, after another body was positively identified last Sunday by a Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) team in Algeria.
According to an earlier report, four Filipinos were injured, while one remains unaccounted for.
The DFA said that 12 overseas Filipino workers survived the 72-hour hostage crisis, which happened last January 16 after gunmen overran a gas plant in Amenas, Algeria. — RSJ, GMA News
