HOUSTON - Juan Manuel Marquez has a heartwarming message for Manny Pacquiao.
A few days after scoring his most spectacular victory, Marquez told Salvador Rodriguez of The Record that the 39-year-old Mexican wants Pacquiao to "accept what had happened and move on" even as calls for them to fight for the fifth time continue to snowball.
Rodriguez furnished the Bulletin a transcript of his interview with Mexico's current toast.
Marquez, who knocked Pacquiao out cold in the sixth round over the weekend in Las Vegas, said: "Manny doesn't have to (feel) bad. That might happen to me as it happened to other fighters he faced (before)."
"We must accept joys and sorrows. In this case it is difficult to accept defeat but you have to accept it and if possible, move on."
Pacquiao was slightly ahead on all scorecards when he connected with a right hand that knocked Pacquiao out in the dying seconds of the sixth round.
Marquez added that he is not yet sure whether he will continue fighting or not, citing the request by his family for him to leave the sport, making it difficult and costly to stage a fifth showdown between the bitter rivals.
"I'm not sure. My family wants me to retire and body gets tired since we are not machines."
Marquez said he will discuss the matter with his family and team "to see what is best."
Pacquiao is aching to get back at Marquez, saying he could have stopped him in the seventh or eighth round had it not been for Marquez's last-second connection.
