The tail-end of a cold front may bring flash floods and landslides over the Bicol region and parts of eastern Visayas and the Soccsksargen region in Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Friday.

As the tail-end of the cold front affects Bicol, the northeast monsoon will be affecting northern and central Luzon.

"Bicol region, Soccsksargen and the province of Samar will have cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rain showers and thunderstorms which may trigger flash floods and landslides," it said in its 5 a.m. bulletin.

The Soccsksargen area includes South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City.

Also, PAGASA said Cagayan Valley and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon will experience light rain.

It added Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy with isolated brief rain showers or thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.

Gale warning

Meanwhile, strong to gale-force winds associated with the surge of the northeast monsoon may affect the seaboards of northern and Central Luzon and the eastern seaboards of southern Luzon and eastern Visayas, PAGASA said.

The seaboards of northern Luzon and Central Luzon includes the Batanes, Calayan, Babuyan, Cagayan and Isabela, Ilocos provinces, La Union, Pangasinan, Aurora, Zambales and Bataan.

The Eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas includes the Camarines provinces, Catanduanes, the eastern coast of Albay, the eastern coast of Sorsogon and the eastern coast of Quezon including Polillo Island and the eastern coast of Samar.

"Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves," it said. — DVM, GMA News
